Jungle Cock Capes - British Domestic - Half Cape Grade B

Jungle Cock Capes - Half Cape Grade B -

British Domestic - (Gallus Sonneratti) Originates from Central India, as far as Mount Abu in the north-west and eastwards to the Godaveri River. Jungle Cock has been bred domestically in England since 1862, it was not until 1978 that the commercial flocks, bred by Ron Taylor of Fishermen's Feathers of Worcestershire began supplying the bright fluorescent neck feathers from the cock birds to retailers, these are now much sought after by fly tiers world-wide.

Jungle cock capes are classified into various grades, based on quality of feather, number of feathers, colour and percentage of split feathers. As with all game and wildfowl feathers Jungle Cock Capes are subject to availability, we do our best to keep all grades in stock at all times. Any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Further information about Grading.
Jungle cock is graded by the supplier, we know it is highly subjective in the fly tying World however we will do our best to explain Gradings of the Jungle cock Capes troutcatchers stock.
Grading is initially done by having a good count of nicely coloured nails, the higher the Grade, in theory the brighter the nails, however with a bit of effort, 'duller nails' can easily be fixed / made brighter with nail polish / permanent waterproof markers. Then the Capes are also graded on a decreasing scale with the amount of split nails on them, however these can also be fixed, traditionally using Floo Gloo or more recently theres a trend to use Bug Bond Lite.

Anyway as a very rough guide:-
Ungraded = Slightly Smaller capes with high percentage of splits but will have some usable un-split feathers - ideal for the fly tier who uses Jungle Cock only occasionally for trout flies of which they more than suffice.
B Grade = Capes with splits in all the feather sizes but does have more usable un-split feathers than the ungraded - Approx 40%-60% We also sell these in Grade B half capes.
A Grade = Capes with a small amount of splits in the smaller feathers and splits in the large and medium feathers
Super Grade A = Capes with virtually no splits (note, no cape will be 100%). More densely filled, richer in color and are more uniform in shape. these are for top end show flies.

Please note outside EU these need to have a CITE Certificate which you need to order.
