Get to Know Simon Kidd - Snowbee
Get to know Simon Kidd - The Heart of British Fly Fishing!

If you’ve spent any time around British fly fishing, you’ve probably heard of Simon Kidd. He’s one of those people who seems to pop up everywhere – on the competition scene, at tackle shows, on YouTube teaching the perfect cast, or waist-deep in a Devon lake helping someone catch their very first trout.

Simon’s been obsessed with fly fishing for decades, and that passion shows in everything he does. He’s represented England around the world – finishing an incredible 4th place at the 2003 World Fly Fishing Championship in Spain – and helped bring home medals for Team England at international events. Calm, clever, and quietly competitive, Simon’s one of those anglers who just seems to think like a trout!!

When he’s not chasing fish, Simon’s shaping the gear we use to catch them. As Product Marketing and Sales Manager for Snowbee UK, he’s the guy testing rods, tweaking fly lines, and turning technical wizardry into tackle that actually works. He’s just as comfortable behind a trade stand as he is behind a fly rod, explaining with easy charm why one reel feels “just right” and another doesn’t.

But where Simon really shines is with people. Whether he’s running a casting demo at a game fair or guiding beginners on his home waters in Devon, he brings a mix of patience, humour, and sheer enthusiasm that makes learning fun. Spend a day with him and you’ll leave not just a better caster, but totally hooked on fly fishing.

Despite all the globetrotting – Spain, France, New Zealand, and beyond – Simon’s heart firmly belongs to the South West of England. He loves the region’s reservoirs and rivers, its hard-fighting trout, and the friendly local fishing scene. He often says anglers down here are “spoilt,” and he’s probably right.

From world championships to local taster days, Simon Kidd lives and breathes fly fishing. He’s a competitor, an innovator, and a born teacher – the kind of angler who makes you want to grab your kit and join him on the water. Because with Simon around, every cast feels like the start of a great story.
Elinor Fishery Northamptonshire
Elinor Trout Fishery – Cast, Relax, Repeat

If you’re after that perfect escape – where the world slows down and the only rush is your line tightening – head to Elinor Trout Fishery. Tucked into the rolling Northamptonshire countryside, Elinor’s 50 acres of open water offer everything an angler could want: space, scenery, and the promise of a proper scrap on the line.

The water here is beautifully maintained and often clear enough to spot the flash of a tail before the take. Home to strong rainbows and wily browns, it’s the sort of place where every cast feels full of potential – whether you’re teasing a dry fly over the shallows or drawing a lure through deeper water.

But it’s not just about the fish. Elinor has that rare mix of energy and calm that keeps people coming back. You’ll hear the quiet murmur of other anglers, catch the odd laugh drifting across the lake, and watch the light dance across the water as the day unfolds.

New to fly fishing? No problem. Elinor’s welcoming, easy-going atmosphere makes it a favourite for beginners and seasoned rods alike. There’s always someone happy to offer a tip, a tale, or the odd bit of well-earned wisdom.

So grab your rod, pack your flask, and give yourself a day out where the biggest decision is which fly to tie on next. Elinor Trout Fishery – the perfect blend of peace, sport, and pure fishing joy.

Great informative day and casting tuition which made a significant difference. Also learnt about Elinor and had three fish on the half day ticket. Definitely will be at the next one to improve my casting further. Opportunity to buy some Snowbee tackle at reduced prices which I successfully resisted...but probably not next time!
