Utc Ice Blue Pearl Film offers a distinctive blue pearl highlight that becomes visible as a nymph or lure turns in the water. It is especially useful for small reflective details when an entire fluorescent body would be too prominent.

Wapsi Ice Blue Pearl Film for Fly Tying

comes in Small, Medium and Large widths. The blue-iridescent pearl finish works as a rib, a slim body wrap or a neat case behind the head of a nymph. At troutcatchers, combine it with Peacock Herl for a darker thorax contrast or lay it over UNI Nylon Extra Strong Thread for a smooth, deliberate highlight.

Each spool contains approximately 7.20 metres of the blue-iridescent pearl material, which can be cut into slim strips for wing cases, cheeks and small reflective accents.

Ice Blue Pearl Film Key Features and Benefits

  • The cool blue colour shift produces a recognisable flash as a fish sees the fly from changing angles.
  • Flat film conforms to slim nymph bodies and tidy wing cases without thickening the dressing.
  • Different widths let the tyer scale the highlighted area to the chosen hook.
  • A narrow accent can add visibility to natural-coloured flies while retaining an imitative silhouette.

Top Tips for Tying with Ice Blue Pearl Film

  • Keep the base body smooth to maximise the film's clean reflective finish.
  • Trim a narrow wing-case strip so the sides of the thorax remain visible.
  • For fine ribs, use separated turns instead of covering the whole abdomen.
  • Secure the cut end under a tidy thread head; avoid excessive wraps that crush the material.

Fly Patterns and Uses for Ice Blue Pearl Film

  • Ice Blue Buzzer: Wrap a slim strip over a thread body to create a cool reflective pupa profile.
  • Flashback Hare's Ear: Pull the film across a dubbed thorax for a brief blue glint as the nymph moves.
  • Diawl Bach Variation: Use a fine pearl-blue rib on a dark abdomen as a modest stillwater trigger.
  • Fry-Imitation Streamer: Add a narrow belly or flank strip to mimic reflected light from little baitfish.

Ice Blue Pearl Film Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a glow-in-the-dark material?

Its effect is reflective blue iridescence; it is not a light-charged phosphorescent film.

Can it be used on very slim buzzers?

Yes. A narrow strip can be fitted over a smooth thread body to maintain a fine profile.

How does the thread underbody affect the final colour?

Try a pale foundation for a cleaner pearl effect or a darker one when you want a subtler blue-toned sheen beneath the reflective wrap.

Which complementary fly-tying materials work with UTC Ice Blue Pearl Film?

Peacock Herl offers a textured, darker contrast, while UNI Nylon Extra Strong Thread helps create a flat base for clean reflective wraps.

This is the best pearl film I have ever used and when you consider it comes on a spool and is not falling all over the place. I find the fish also like it and the small amount added to the body or tail has a brilliant effect. Would I recommend this product which is easier to use than loose, for any serious fly tier, the answer is yes a must for any fly tying specialist box, i will be buying this product again.
